Wales Deaf Rugby Union is preparing for the 2026 World Championships in Japan.Japan 2026 is a major moment for WDRU. Wales heads into the tournament as the defending world champions in both the men’s and women’s game, making this an opportunity not only to represent Wales on the world stage, but to defend that standard with pride, ambition and purpose.As a volunteer-run, self-funded charity, we do not receive the financial backing that many national programmes rely on. That means every stage of the journey to Japan must be carefully planned, funded and delivered through the commitment of players, staff, volunteers, supporters and partners.Why Japan 2026 matters
The World Championships bring together the leading deaf rugby nations in the world. For Wales, it is a chance to compete with pride, ambition and purpose while continuing to set the standard for deaf rugby internationally.But this campaign is about more than just focussing on performance on the pitch. We want to create opportunities for deaf and hard-of-hearing athletes, raising the profile of deaf rugby in Wales, and showing what can be achieved through belief, resilience and collective support.Our focus
Our aim is not simply to get to Japan, but to arrive properly prepared and ready to compete.That means supporting the full campaign behind the scenes, including:
- Training and preparation
- Travel and tournament logistics
- Kit and equipment
- Player welfare and support
- Professional delivery on and off the field
At the same time, we remain committed to building a stronger future for deaf rugby in Wales. Progress at elite level should also help strengthen the pathway for the next generation through our wider community and youth development work.How you can support
